Another Great Goostrey Evening In Aid Of St. Luke’s Hospice, Winsford

We played our third 2011 concert on Saturday 26th November at Goostrey Village Hall to a full house.  Charlie Bentley was back with us for this performance where the audience and the band all had an excellent time.   The crowning glory for the evening was that we raised another £463 for St. Luke’s Hospice, Winsford and that makes the GRAND TOTAL £8,188.38.   Mart keeps saying we have reached a lovely fulfillment of life in playing our brand of music, making people happy and at the same time helping someone who is less fortunate than we are.  Next years dates are already booked at the hall starting with 9th March 2012.

Mart Rodger Manchester Jazz at Mottram St Andrew Village Hall

Sunday 13th November: Special Charity Concert at Mottram St. Andrew Village Hall near Macclesfield assisting St. Ann’s Hospice and East Cheshire Hospice.  There was a great enthusiastic audience there and we raised £1,160 from ticket sales and the raffle.   This concert was in Memory of Pauline Browne, our pianist Roger’s late wife and Ian Price the artist and close friend of the band.   Ian used to organize concerts for East Cheshire Hospice when he was alive.

John Mayall at The Bridgewater Hall

Friday 4th November: Mart’s close friend is John Mayall The Blues Singer, Pianist, Guitarist and outstanding harmonica player. Mart, Janet and the family went to see John at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester this evening and the singing and music was superb as always. The music friendship goes back to teenage years when they played together in a teenage jazz band in Cheadle Hulme in the early 1950’s. After Mart had done his National Service he teamed up with John in 1956 to form the “Hounds of Sound” which lasted for a short time before Mart was invited to join The Zenith Six. After the Bridgewater Hall concert tonight John invited his family and friends, which included Janet and Mart to enjoy some really good reminiscing in the musicians room back stage.
